Best Retinol for Beginners | Shani Darden Skin Care
NOT ALL RETINOLS ARE MADE EQUAL
"I believe retinol is the most powerful anti-aging ingredient. My Retinol Reform serum provides multiple anti-aging benefits with minimal dryness and irritation often experienced with other retinols." - Shani DardenShop Now
"Cushioned in emollients, the retinol in this creamy serum absorbs quickly and distributes slowly, helping to prevent the inflammation and peeling that often accompanies a dose of Vitamin A. That means even touchy or temperamental complexions can get in on the wrinkle-relaxing action."
- Allure, Best of Beauty Awards 2020
"As a rule, a good retinol should be in everyone's skincare arsenal to maintain a youthful complexion. However, retinols can be drying—like,'my face is about to fall off' dry. But, Shani Darden's Retinol Reform is also formulated with hydrating lactic acid, which brightens and smooths the skin for an immediate glow, while the retinol works to refine and smooth fine lines and wrinkles, sloughs congestions, and boosts collagen. A game changer."
- Senior Editor, Town & Country
I am really in love with Retinol Reform. It's gentle enough to use every other night, it smooths lines, and gets rid of scars and acne. It's my secret weapon to flawless skin."
- Rosie Huntington-Whitely
"So if I was going to start using a retinol, why not make it the one that Rosie Huntington-Whiteley says helped cure her problem skin? The one that Lea Michele says she "can't live without"? And that is the prequel to the story of how Darden's Retinol Reform earned a permanent spot on my vanity."
- Byrdie Editor
"I have sensitive skin, and [Retinol Reform] doesn't irritate it at all. It gets rid of blemishes and wrinkles. It's been a game changer in my skin-care routine."
- January Jones, InStyle
"Shani’s retinol isn’t your run-of-the-mill fine line preventer and softener—with lactic acid and niacinamide in the mix, it also evens skin tone and helps pores look smaller with immediate effect. You’ll still need to wait the requisite six to eight weeks for the retinol to kick in, but at least that's shorter than Shani’s appointment waitlist."
- Into The Gloss, Top 25 Beauty Products of the Decade
Retinol Reform is unique in that it contains lactic acid. Lactic Acid is an exfoliant that works quickly to smooth and brighten skin so you’ll see immediate benefits along with the long term benefits of using a retinol.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much Retinol does Retinol Reform contain?
Retinol Reform contains a proprietary blend of encapsulated retinol, specially formulated to deliver maximum benefits while minimizing irritation. Encapsulated retinol delivers a slow, steady stream of retinol into the skin, working to boost skin's elasticity and minimize fine lines, wrinkles and dullness.
Will Retinol Reform make my skin dry or flaky?
Retinol Reform is specifically formulated to provide all of the benefits of a retinol serum with minimal dryness, flaking, and irritation. However, when you’re starting any retinol product, the best thing to do is start slow to allow your skin time to acclimate. We recommend starting with 1 night a week, and building up slowly, adding just one additional night each week. Build up to as often as your skin can tolerate.
How long will it take to see results?
When used regularly, results can be seen in as little as two weeks—this includes brighter skin that feels softer and smoother. Between 4-8 weeks you can expect to see an improvement in fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone.*
*Results based on a clinical study conducted over 35 women between visual evaluation and instrumental measurement over 12 weeks. Individual results may vary.
Can I use other actives (AHA, BHA, Vtamin C) with Retinol?
Shani recommends alternating nights of Retinol Reform with an AHA or BHA, if skin can tolerate it. Do not use Retinol Reform on the same night as other actives, as it may cause skin irritation. A Vitamin C Serum can be used in the AM, and Retinol Reform can be used in the evening on the same day.
I have sensitive skin. Can I use Retinol Reform?
Many clients with sensitive skin report using Retinol Reform with little to no irritation. If you're starting a retinol product for the first time, you must start slowly—Shani recommends incorporating into your routine 1 night per week, and adding a night each week, only as your skin can tolerate it. You will still see results, using Retinol Reform consistently, a few times per week.
